Kevin Benckendorf

Kevin Benckendorf is an award-winning German photographer who has explored 64 countries across six continents, most of them together with his wife and their dog. As a certified divemaster he has met the ocean’s wilder residents up close: thresher sharks in the Philippines, manta rays in Australia.

He worked as a physiotherapist in a hospital before turning his life toward travel. Today he works fully remote as Head of Strategic Partnerships for the German travel company Journaway, a role that keeps him on the road, from familiarization trips to expedition destinations like Svalbard. The camera comes along everywhere.

In December 2025 he moved to Mallorca for seven months and earned his private pilot licence. Flying and photography share the same core for him: freedom, a little adrenaline, and access to places most people never get to see.

What he photographs are the adventures that still exist. He spent almost a month on foot crossing Bhutan on the Snowman Trek, one of the hardest treks on earth. He climbed Aconcagua, at almost 7000 meters the highest mountain outside Asia. He swam with bull sharks off South Africa, followed the sulfur miners into the crater of an Indonesian volcano, tracked lemurs through Madagascar and wildlife through the Amazon. And he still finds stories close to home, like the bonfire night of Sant Joan in his mountain village on Mallorca. All of it comes back to the same point: showing what is still out there, and why it is worth protecting.
